Whether you are new to Judaism or a lifetime member of the tribe seeking to brush up on your facts, join our weekly study and shmooze sessions exploring Jewish faith, customs, history, and holidays.  Lively discussion and seventeen Q & A sheets guide us throughout the year as we cover major units on Prayer & Shul, Ideology & Belief, Kashrut, Shabbat, and Holidays.  Come for the entire course or simply drop in for topics of greatest personal interest.

 PARSHA PROBE  –  TUESDAYS beginning Oct. 12th,  7:15 – 8:15 PM

In-depth exploration of select topics from the weekly Torah portion with a particular emphasis on practical applications for modern daily Jewish living.  In addition to sharing our own thoughts and conjectures, we will dip into the field of rabbinic and scholarly commentaries – the famous, the less famous, and occasionally, the infamous.

TALMUD CLASS (Alex Frieder Memorial Shiur)  -  THURSDAYS beginning Oct. 21st. 9:30-10:30 AM

Whether it’s your first time looking at a page of Gemara or you’re a seasoned daf yomi veteran, Talmud study invariably yields insights that reward the curious and profit the patient.  During the fall and winter, we will make our way through Tractate Chagiga, aiming to complete it in time for Pesach.  We will then pursue themed studies examining famous Talmudic passages pertaining to such questions as: May one acquire lost property?  What is the status of a conversion for the sake of marriage?  How far does the law bend to accommodate human dignity?

Philosophy of Rav Kook. (Gregory Yashgur)  Resources Page
Tuesday, October 19 at 9:00 pm,  in the Library
Topic: Post-Modernism. Building up on Rav Kook’s approach.

The group studies Rav Kook’s teachings and ideas that shed light on the dynamics that takes place in History, Judaism and Civilization at large. The range of topics we explore is very broad and covers the areas of Halacha, Hashkafa, philosophy, science and ethics. The system developed by Rav Kook Z’TL provides the necessary tools to approach any challenge that society faces and outlines a path for generations to come. The efforts of our study group immensely contributed both financially and editorially to the publication of the first in depth exploration of Rav Kook’s thought in English, authored by Dr. Pinchas Polonsky.  The religious Zionist camp is the largest religious group that is ideologically rooted in the approach of Rav Kook Z’TL.
